When Anton's sister, Rachel, 6, showed signs of choking, Anton, 14, immediately reacted by using the Heimlich Maneuver he learned in Safe Sitter®.  “My mom, Rachel, and I were eating nacho chips at Rachel’s favorite restaurant when I realized Rachel was choking.  She was trying to gag and looked scared.  I could tell that she was having trouble breathing.  I said, ‘Mom, Rachel’s choking!’”
Anton’s mother said she was sitting right next to Rachel and didn’t know anything was wrong until Anton told her.  “As soon as I looked at her, I knew something was wrong,” said Anton’s mother.  “I was trying to remember what to do.  I did the Heimlich Maneuver once and then Anton got up and told me to move.  He got Rachel out of the booth and did the Heimlich Maneuver two or three times and the chips came out.  Then she threw up.  Other people in the restaurant came over to help but Anton knew what to do and did it!  I just started crying.  It was really scary and Anton was so calm!  I cried for two weeks!”
Anton had taken Safe Sitter® with his twin brother over a year earlier at his local hospital.  He credits Safe Sitter® for knowing what to do, how to do it, and to remain calm.   Afterwards his mother wrote a letter to their local paper thanking the hospital for "providing this wonderful program!"
