When
Brianna’s mother suggested she take Safe Sitter®, Brianna didn’t want to
go. After using the skills she learned in class to save the life of her
seven-month-old brother who was choking, Brianna is glad she did!
When Brianna’s mother saw the flier at the hospital, she thought
Brianna needed to take a babysitting class since she occasionally
watched her two younger brothers. And Brianna had a third baby brother
on the way! igning up one of her friends with her, Brianna reluctantly
took Safe Sitter® through her local hospital in Florida. “Then we liked
it a lot,” exclaimed Brianna. “Our Instructor really took time to
explain everything and to answer our questions.”
Brianna, 13, was playing video games with her brothers, ages 7 and
3. Jace, 7 months, was playing with toys on the floor. “I heard a weird
noise – one that I’d never heard before,” said Brianna. “Jace wasn’t
able to cough or cry. His face was red and he looked panicked. I picked
him up, turned him over, and did back blows. I got a little scared when
it didn’t work at first. It finally worked and he started crying. Then
he threw up!”
Calling their mother was Brianna’s next step. “She asked me if Jace
was OK. My mom said, ‘You saved your brother’s life!’ When she got home,
she just kept hugging us!”
After expressing her appreciation to Brianna, her mother wrote to
Safe Sitter®. “If it wasn’t for Brianna and the Safe Sitter® class, we
wouldn’t have our baby with us now. Brianna managed to stay calm and
remember what to do. Now, what normal 13-year-old would be able to do
that? We are so proud of her!”
