Babysitting Activities

Babysitting is a big responsibility but that doesn't mean it can't also be fun.
Sometimes, the hardest thing about it is coming up with ideas of fun things to do.
There are lots of different activities that are just right for any age. Why not give these a try the next time you're babysitting and don't have a clue what to do?

Let us know which ones are your favorites and were the most fun for the children you babysat. And, if you have any other ideas for activities, please share them with us. Your ideas may end up posted on our website!

Eggtastic! (Preschool or School Age)

eggMaterials Needed:

  • 12 pieces of brightly-colored paper, such as construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • 1 dozen plastic Easter eggs
  • 1 egg carton
  • Optional: stickers

Procedure:

  1. Decorate the top of the egg carton with construction paper, markers, stickers, etc.
  2. Have an older child cut brightly-colored paper into 12 small strips about 3 to 4 inches long by ½ to 1 inch wide. You will need to cut the paper for a preschooler.
  3. Think of 12 fun activities you can do with the child, such as play a board game, read a book, make a craft, play hide-and-go-seek, play outside, go on a treasure hunt, watch a video, have a tea party, write a letter, make a musical instrument with household items, etc. Using a marker or crayon, write a different activity on each of the 12 pieces of paper.
  4. Put 1 piece of paper in each egg and then put the eggs in the carton. You can decide how you want the child to open the eggs. For example, you can open 1 egg each time you babysit the child or you can open 1 before the child takes a nap and another 1 when the child wakes up.
  5. Have fun!
