Essential workers in your community have faced countless challenges in the past year, including finding child care solutions. More than ever, parents are relying on older siblings and teens in their neighborhoods to help meet this need.
We have updated many of the requirements that prevented individuals from moving forward as a Safe Sitter® Instructors and added new introductory programs as course options making it easier and more affordable to build safer communities. |
We added new Instructor options.Individuals with access to CPR manikins that are currently certified in CPR may teach Safe Sitter® as an Independent Instructor. The registration fee is only $399 and includes the Game Pack, Graphics Pack, Instructor training and Instructor materials. Proof of insurance is no longer required nor do you need to be associated with a qualified organization to register as an Independent Instructor. To get started, simply complete our online application. |
We added new programs. In addition to our comprehensive curriculum option, we also offer introductory courses meant for small groups and they are designed to be facilitated by any adult that enjoys teaching young teens. You are not required to be a Safe Sitter® Instructor to teach these programs. In addition, there is no registration fee and Instructor training is not required. Simply order a student booklet for each student and you’ll receive a Facilitator’s Guide and Digital Presentation at no additional cost. |
Safe@Home is a 90-minute program that teaches students in grades 4-6 to practice safe habits, prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. Students are also introduced to the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
Intro to Safe Babysitting is a 60-minute course meant for small groups of 6th-8th graders. Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practicing diapering.
In 2019, Safe Sitter® launched a YouTube channel to help students interested in babysitting learn more. These videos are educational and entertaining, a combination that always wins with middle school students! Some of the videos have been incorporated into the Digital Presentation to demonstrate skills such as diapering and teach important safety skills.
As students and Instructors return to in-person classes, many of our Registered Providers are still offering our introductory programs virtually. Both Safe@Home and Intro to Safe Babysitting are short in duration and when offered virtually often provide more students an opportunity to complete a class.
