Our Instructors create an engaging atmosphere for participants! To be a Safe Sitter® Instructor you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent, and 2 years of experience in health care, child care (including parenting), or youth work.
  • Be current in a CPR course that requires a minimum of a skills performance test in infant and child CPR, such as Heartsaver® CPR/AED from the American Heart Association
  • Enjoy teaching young teens and being a role model.
  • Commit to teaching at least one class per year.
  • Have access to infant and child CPR manikins. If you do not have manikins, you may purchase them or borrow them from a community partner.
  • Complete Safe Sitter® Instructor training.

Additional qualifications are required to teach choking rescue or CPR in a Safe Sitter® class.

  • To teach the CPR portion of a class, you must either be current in a CPR Instructor course or use the Safe Sitter® CPR Video to teach that section of the class.
  • Any certified CPR Instructor may teach the CPR portion of the class. You do not need to be a Safe Sitter® Instructor to this one section.

CPR Training is NOT included in Safe Sitter® Instructor Training. Visit the American Heart Association website to find a CPR class near you.

Safe Sitter® Instructors are qualified to teach all programs offered by Safe Sitter®. If you choose to offer an additional program at a later time, you do not need to complete additional training.
