Can Virtual Classes Really Work?

Virtual Class Guide

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted us all, including a generation of young teens that needs the knowledge and skills to keep themselves and the children they care for safe. At Safe Sitter® we are committed to continuing to meet those needs in the best way that we can, including through virtual classes taught by trained Safe Sitter® Instructors. While socially distanced, in-person classes are working well for some providers where community transmission rates are low, across much of the country, virtual classes are a safer option. There are certainly challenges associated with teaching remotely, but the rewards of working through those challenges are well worth it. Over the past few months, we have heard from grateful parents whose young teens were able to complete a virtual Safe Sitter® class and safely watch their younger brothers and sisters or take on their first babysitting job for a neighbor who needed help.

Virtual Safe Sitter® classes are a great option during the pandemic because like our in-person classes, they are Instructor-led. As our best Instructors know from teaching for many years, it is the interaction between Instructors and students that brings the information to life, helps provide context and understanding, and enables Instructors to answer questions and check for understanding.

We have worked hard over the past few months to make adjustments so that our classes work for virtual platforms: we have created a new digital presentation just for virtual classes, we have adapted our most popular games to create new digital versions that can played remotely, and we have online versions of everything from the Student Evaluation Form to Completion Cards.

If you would like to offer virtual classes but don’t know where to start, we can help! Read our Virtual Class Guide and FAQs, and log in to Instructor Resources for additional information.
