Afterschool Enrichment Programs

Working parents rely on you to provide a safe environment for their children every day in your afterschool program. When a power failure occurs, a weather emergency arises, or a child becomes ill, parents trust you to provide the best and safest care. Even when your doors close, you can offer parents the same peace of mind.

Many students stay home alone for short periods of time on weekends or are responsible to care for younger siblings during school breaks. Help parents find even more value in your afterschool program by equipping students with the safety and child care skills they through Safe Sitter® programs.

Safe@Home is a 90-minute program that prepares students in grades 4-6 to stay safe when home alone. Students practice safe habits, learn how to prevent unsafe situations, and handle dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. They also explore the Safe Sitter® First Aid Chart and learn how to assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.

Safe Sitter® Essentials prepares students in grades 6-8 for the responsibilities of watching younger siblings and babysitting for other children. The developmentally appropriate course for middle school learners contains interactive games and role-playing activities to teach key concepts and promote healthy behaviors. Students learn:

  • Safety Skills: Students discover how to prevent unsafe situations and handle dangers like power failures or weather emergencies.
  • Child Care Skills: Students learn how to manage behavior, stay in control of themselves and the children they care for, and understand the ages and stages of child development. They also practice diapering.
  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Students practice choking rescue and CPR, which often become their favorite parts of the class. They also learn how to assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. (CPR is included in Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR and Safe Sitter® Expanded.)
  • Life & Business Skills:Students practice screening jobs, discussing fees, and greeting employers to prepare for future success. Role-playing activities help reinforce these skills.

Program Coordinators will appreciate that Safe Sitter® programs are turn-key and easy to implement. Instructors benefit from the guided discussions with planned questions that keep the curriculum engaging. Students gain life-saving information through games and activities that make learning fun.
